The United States President-elect Donald Trump has revealed his intention to push Kash Patel as a better replacement for Christopher Wray as FBI director before he finishes his term. The announcement was made on Saturday.
The current FBI director, Wray, was appointed in 2017 by Donald Trump, and he is expected to be in office for 10 years, but situations have shown that he may be removed from office or forced to give way for a new director.
Patel, being a strong supporter of Donald Trump, is also a big critic of the FBI; he once called for the dismantling of the security outfit’s headquarters and also condemned them for the search that they conducted in Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in 2022. He also booked an outline of a “deep state” threat, where he called for an overhaul of the Justice Department, a demand that the president-elect has equally endorsed.
It is yet to be known if Patel’s nomination will scale through at the Senate, considering that he has been a very controversial personal personality within Trump’s circle.
In a general tradition, the FBI director is mostly granted the opportunity to stay for a 10-year term to protect the agency from political influence, a tradition that had been previously challenged by Donald Trump when he sacked James Comey in 2017.
The former president also revealed that Chad Chronister, sheriff of Hillsborough County, Florida, will be his interest to lead the DEA.
These are likely to face strong opposition at the legislative arm in the incoming administration of Donald Trump.
