Atiku Abubakar, former Nigerian vice president has appealed to delegates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) who will be electing the presidential candidate of the party to place competence, experience, and national reach ahead of social media fame and sentiment as the party will be picking its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

Phrank Shaibu, a Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication to the former Vice President, mentioned in his press statement that online enthusiasm should not be a reliable indicator of leadership capacity.

Shaibu also noted that the current realities of economic hardship, rising debt, insecurity, and weakening institutions plaguing the country require a capable and tested leader.

He stressed that the ADC must field its strongest candidate to stand a real chance against Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that elections are won through strong political structures, strategic planning, and proven governance ability, not digital popularity.

He emphasized that the party, ADC, must ensure that its best candidates are elected to stand against Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He noted that winning elections requires strategic planning, strong political structures, and proven governance abilities, rather than popularity on social media.

The Adamawa-born politician appealed to the electorate to elect a leader with crisis management experience, global exposure, and the capacity to build broad coalitions as he describes the decision before delegates as historic.

Atiku mentioned that Nigeria needs a person who has a clear, stable, practical roadmap for economic recovery, and national renewal.
