Former Guber aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Idris Gatumbwa Mamman Durkwa has been elected by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its consensus candidate to contest in the 2027 general election for the Borno South Senatorial District.

The Borno South Senatorial District seat is currently occupied by Senator Ali Ndume, who already has the ticket for the APC to represent the senatorial district for the fifth term.

Should Durkwa emerge, he would take over from the long-serving legislator who is widely known for his strong position on national issues.

ADC also screened other aspirants for the other Senatorial Districts, including Babagana Zanna for Borno Central and Fugu Ibrahim for Borno North.

Mohammed Umar Bolori, the ADC Organising Secretary, who spoke after the screening mentioned that Durkwa clinched the ticket of the party after a consensus arrangement.

Bolori also mentioned that many House of Representatives aspirants and three governorship aspirants were screened where the consensus arrangement did not work.
