Why Peter Obi Choose To Become A Political Nomad As He Confirms Exit From ADC

Former Governor of Anambra and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate has confirmed that he had left the African Democratic Congress.

The former governor, in his statement, revealed that his decision is caused by many issues confronting the party, including distrust, court cases, division within the party, and many internal crises, spearheaded by the “Nigerian state and its agents.”

If you look at his trail, from APGA to PDP to Labour to ADC, and now NDC, it really looks like a lot, but like an adage which says that a frog does not run out in daytime for no reason (which is mostly something pursuing it), Obi might only be jumping ships because of similar reasons, and we will examine some of them here:

Strength in Numbers: After the 2023 election, Peter Obi must have known that the 2023 momentum was great, but it was not enough to defeat the well-established structures of the two major parties – APC and PDP.

Internal Friction: The saying that no ship can have two captains also applies in politics, and Obi and Atiku were classic examples. From PDP to ADC, the whispers of “who gets the ticket?” are enough to make one look for a virgin land. a fresh start.

The Search for a “Clean” Platform: The Obidient movement is built on accountability and integrity, but he finds himself in parties where the old eggs still want to do business as usual (buying delegates, god-fatherism, etc). When such clashes with his ideology so much, he moves.

Strategic Survival: If your party isn’t “national,” and you are vying for a Federal post, you’re most likely playing a losing game. Obi left APGA because it was seen as a regional South-Eastern party. He left the PDP because the “big boys” wouldn’t give him the space to “breathe”.

While Tinubu’s aide, Onanuga, was literally correct in calling him a political nomad, Peter Obi’s every move has been a step toward finding a platform that can actually allow him to contest and win a national election.
