Scientists have come up with a new way to fight Malaria, instead of using real blood as bait. After extensive research, they announced that Beet Juice can also lure mosquitoes to their deaths.
Malaria is a disease which is mostly carried by the Mosquito, and many individuals have died from it. Research shows that Malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases kills more than 700,000 people all over the globe every year.
Malaria Experiment
Using a molecule from a malaria parasite, the researchers, based at Sweden’s Stockhom University, added beet juice, which looks much like blood, to lure the mosquitoes. The beet juice had been mixed with poison.
The study showed how the mosquitoes sucked on the beet juice and died. Could beet juice smell or taste like blood? Malaria is an age-long disease that has been terrorizing the tropical areas and scientists are looking for any lasting solution to the fight.
A mosquito looks for the taste of juicy bloody liquid which is why the scientists added HMBPP, a chemical released by a parasite called Plasmodium falciparum.
About five times as many mosquitoes drank the beet juice after the researchers added just a smidgen of HMBPP.
Conclusion
It is a good study because the continuous use of pesticides to fight mosquitoes is harmful to humans and their environment. so, if beet juice laced with poison is affordable, more people can fight mosquitoes without harming the environment.
