Vladimir Petković, the head coach of the Algerian senior team, has expressed confidence that his team has the mental strength and quality to extend their unbeaten run against the Super Eagles of Nigeria when the two sides clash in the AFCON 2025 quarter-final in Morocco.
The head coach, who spoke on Friday at a pre-match press conference in Marrakech, mentioned that clinical finishing and tactical discipline would be really needed against a strong Nigeria team, the Super Eagles.
Algeria has had a historical advantage against the Super Eagles side in all of their previous encounters.
The heightened game, which will be played today, Saturday, at the Stade de Marrakech, will be the two teams’ 25th clash as Nigeria holds a record of defeating Algeria in the 1988 AFCON in Morocco through penalties.
Riyad Mahrez, Algeria’s skipper, acknowledged that the game against the Super Eagles would not be an easy walkover considering the prowess of players of the Green, White, and Green country.
Mahrez says he understands the pressure that it will take to get a win and said he hopes that he will be able to lift this trophy, as it may be his last AFCON tournament.
