Nike is at the center of backlash after its Canadian branch shared a message on Instagram where it encouraged Muslim women to bring in their religion into sports, including wearing hijabs with their various uniforms and costumes.
“Don’t change who you are. Change the world”, Nike Toronto wrote on their social media page with a picture of hijab-wearing female athletes in different types of sports.
NikeToronto announced that it has created an organization called the HIJABI BALLERS which aims to integrate Muslim girls and women into sports and not have them want to drop their religion so they can practice.
However, Nike’s idea resulted in wide calls to cancel the brand. It was seen as a call to bring Islam into sports and make the industry bend to their rules, unlike other religions practiced by other people.
“Ok, then we’ll change the world a little by forever boycotting blind capitalistic unprincipled traitorous companies”, nimadaryamadj commented.
“I can’t buy anything from you apparently. I like the world so wouldn’t want to change it”, katiejauncey wrote.
Others faulted Nike for promoting Sharia in the West instead of seeking to help the girl child and women in Sharia-practicing countries.
“Say that to Afghanistan and Bangladesh. They banned women from playing sports. Tell them to change first… Then we can think about the rest nike”, metahuman95 commented.
“Nike promoting misogyny via shariah unapologetically…!” Vivaan Modi said.
The footwear company was also said to have gone woke and is likened to the poor rating and massive dislike Jaguar received following its feminine rebranding.
