President Trump set up a presidential portrait walkway at the White House that shows all the previous leaders of the United States, but two photos – that of himself and Joe Biden stand out.
Trump chose his mugshot as his official portrait, and for his predecessor, Joe Biden, he represented the 82-year-old with an auto pen and signature.
Trump’s mug shot photo stems from his indictment on racketeeringand other related charges on August 24, 2023, at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, Georgia. The photo, which quickly became a meme, also broke history as the first time the police arrested and booked a U.S. president.
Trump’s campaign, however, made good use of the popularity of the mugshot and used it for its presidential campaign. Currently, the photograph ranks as one of, if not the most famous, mugshots ever.
Former President Joe Biden’s representation by an auto pen and signature stems from the many instances of his absenteeism and claims of very important documents being signed on his behalf using an auto pen during his administration.
This opens up the many claims of masked doubles that represented the former president. Trump himself had claimed that Joe Biden was dead for a long time. On June 1, 2025, Trump wrote on his Truth Social that Joe Biden was executed in 2020 and was replaced by clones who are currently running the show on his behalf.
Trump, who also refers to Joe Biden as “Sleepy Joe Biden”, claimed that the presidential pardons the former president made shortly before his handover were signed using an auto pen, and that more shockingly, he did not know about it.
Trump’s claims were based on a report from an investigative oversight project called Heritage Foundation, which concluded that “WHOEVER CONTROLLED THE AUTOPEN CONTROLLED THE PRESIDENCY”.
However, BBC Verify could not substantiate his claims.
Control of the presidency also stems from many instances and reports that, at that time, undermined Biden’s mental health and sanity.
Biden’s reputation was further hit in December 2024 after an undercover video showed Henry Appel, an Advisor to the National Security Council, agreeing that Biden’s cognitive decline was mind-blowing and that he would die in a year’s time.
In May 2025, Americans were shocked by the news of the former president announcing that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer, which had metastasized to his bones.
