The United States Food and Drug Administration announced on January 12 the recall of specialty chocolate bars from store shelves after concerns about possible salmonella contamination.
A voluntary recall of the Mint Leaf Date-Sweetened Chocolate Bar has been done by producer Spring & Mulberry after routine testing conducted by an independent laboratory revealed a likely contamination risk.
The specialty chocolate bars have been sold online and at select retailers across the country since last year’s September.
The recall applies only to the packages that were marked with lot code #025255. To date, no adverse health effects or illnesses have been recorded in connection to the contamination.
Those that bought the affected chocolate have been advised not to consume it and get rid of it immediately.
Consumers who had already bought the chocolate have been told to communicate back to Spring & Mulberry with a clear picture of the chocolate that shows the lot code.
Media such as USA TODAY has reached out to Spring & Mulberry for more details, but the company has not responded by the time of filing this report.
