Manchester City fought back against Swansea City to earn a 3-1 win and grab a spot at the Carabao Cup quarter-final.
The home side netted the first goal after Goncalo Franco fired a shot from 20 yards into the top corner of Manchester City’s goalpost through a joint effort from Josh Key and Melker Widell.
Swansea City nearly netted the second goal, but Widell’s low drive was denied by James Trafford. The away side equalised just before the end of the first half through a goal by Jeremy Doku, after his shot deflected off Cameron Burgess.
Manchester City dominated the match after the second half commenced, with Rayan Cherki outdoing himself after his return from injury.
Omar Marmoush’s goal at 13 minutes from time gave City the lead after converting a clever assist from Cherki into a goal, making it his first of the season. The goal that sealed the win was scored by Cherki in the dying minute with fine composure.
Manchester City, which prides itself as an eight-time winner of the Carabao Cup, will play Brentford at Etihad Stadium in the quarter-finals as they aim to win the Cup again.
