Donald Trump, the United States president, slammed both Iran and Israel for breaking the ceasefire order just hours after he announced it on his social media pages. His anger leaned more on Israel, which had launched fresh airstrikes on Tehran shortly after the truce took effect.

Trump told reporters he was “not happy” with the two countries before he boarded his helicopter. His position moved from stern to scathing.

“Israel. Do not drop those bombs. If you do it it is a major violation. Bring your pilots home, now!” Trump wrote on Truth Social shortly after he left the White House for a trip to a NATO summit in The Hague.

Israel Katz, who is the Israeli defense minister, had earlier confirmed he ordered new attacks on Tehran. He hinged his order on what he said Iranian missiles fired in what he called a “blatant violation” of the agreement.

The accusation was flatly denied by the other country. Officials claimed no missiles had been launched and that Israeli bombardments continued for an hour and 30 minutes past the declared ceasefire time.

Relief looks possible despite the violation. There was a real, raw exhale in Tel Aviv, Tehran, and across the region and around the world. A way forward had emerged. Twelve days after Israel ignited the conflict with a surprise assault. Two days later, Trump piled on by targeting Iranian nuclear sites.
