The United States President, Donald Trump, made a bold announcement on Tuesday that the U.S. would take charge of Gaza after a discussion was made with Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister, at the White House.

President Donald Trump’s proposal did not include how he plans to move more than two million people who are Palestinians to another location or how the United States will establish control, how he will evacuate unexploded bombs, how he will redevelop the area, boost its economy, and clear rubble.

He also mentioned in his statement that the plan has garnered backing from top leaders from the Middle East, but leaders across Egypt, China, France, Turkey, Germany, Hamas, and the Palestinian Authority refused to look away as they immediately kicked against the proposal.

While many leaders condemned the idea, it received Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s support, who labeled it a possible “historic change.” The President of the United States suggested long-term U.S. ownership, hoping that Gaza would become the “Riviera of the Middle East.”

The proposal was not accepted by Hamas, which has taken charge of the area since 2007, tagging it as racist and an act of aggression that would distort the stability of the region. Hamas cautioned that the idea would cause tensions.

The area has been faced with a year and three months of conflict that started after Hamas attacked Israel in October 2023. Trump also took credit for ensuring that there was a ceasefire that took place in January.
