Stephanie White, a former coach of the Connecticut Sun who is now the manager of the Indiana Fever, faced a similar challenge as her new club lost at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse 91-90 to the Atlanta Dream.
The head coach, who recorded a 5-1 advantage against the Fever last season, saw her new team pushing harder at the end of the game, but they were unable to defeat the Atlanta Dream.
The Atlanta Dream, also led by a new coach, Karl Smesko, displayed their off-season addition during the game. Brionna Jones added 19 points and 13 boards, while Brittney Griner posted 21 points and 8 rebounds.
The Dream outdid themselves to clinch a win this time after they lost their season-opening game to Washington.
Caitlin Clark was on the lookout again for Indiana with a record of 11 assists, 27 points, and 5 rebounds during the game. Kelsey Mitchell also scored 24, while Aliyah Boston had 10 rebounds and added 24 points.
The Fever struggled at the line during the game as they hit only 16 of the 26 free throws, as opposed to Atlanta, which hit 25 of 32.
Indiana briefly led 90-89 against their opponent with 21.1 seconds left before Rhyne Howard scored 20 points that returned Atlanta to the lead with two free throws. Natasha Howard’s shot was blocked in the closing seconds, preventing the Fever from turning the game around with their last chance.
