MLB Nick Kurtz would arguably go down as one of the greatest players after he became the first rookie in baseball history to hit four home runs in a single game.
That wasn’t the only record he hit in Athletics’ huge win over the Houston Astros. He also equals Shawn Green’s total based record in a game with 19 total bases.
Nick’s performance was not just amazing, it was unbelievable, especially since it came from a player who was just starting to build his footprint.
“It’s arguably the best game I’ve ever watched from a single player,” Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said.
Kurtz was active from the beginning, going deep first in the second inning. He also went deep off each of the Astros’ Pitchers in the sixth, eighth, and ninth innings.
It was a shocker even for the rookie. Nobody would have thought a player would have an extremely great game early in their career.
However, Kurtz’s story was different. He finished the game against the Astros with six runs and eight RBIs.
Although Nick is not the first player to hit four home runs in a single game, he is the first player to do it in his 66th MLB appearance. He is also the first to do it in the last 30 years.
Before him, Mark Whiten held the ‘4-homer in a single game’ record which he achieved in his 425th game in 1993.
“It’s stuff that you don’t even dream about, because it doesn’t really happen. So it’s an unbelievable feeling.,” Kurtz said after the game.
The outstanding rookie has now had 23 home runs this season with more surprises coming if he continues at this pace.
