Michael Porter Jr. and an unprotected 2032 first-round pick have been traded by the Denver Nuggets to the Brooklyn Nets for forward Cameron Johnson, as reported by ESPN.
The two players still have two years left in the contract they signed, but the Denver Nuggets shed Porter’s $38.3M and $40.8M salaries when they brought Johnson to their side. Johnson will earn $21M and $23M.
These new steps will unlock a $14.1M midlevel exception for Denver’s new front office duo, Jon Wallace and Ben Tenzer, and clear luxury tax space.
The Denver Nuggets have signed another contract with Bruce Brown, a fan favorite after the completion of the trade, to a one-year veteran minimum deal. Brown, who was a factor in Denver’s 2023 title run, came back after averaging 11.5 points that season.
Johnson has some nice records from the last three seasons, including a 6’8″ sharpshooter who averaged 18.8 points and shot 39%. He is also prone to injury, but his shot creation and versatility cannot be overlooked.
Porter leaves as the second in franchise history in made threes and as a 40% career three-point shooter.
Nuggets have also included JJ Barea to his staff and promoted David Adelman to head coach.
