Guardiola’s Manchester City moves closer to winning the Premier League title race after defeating Arteta’s Arsenal.
Kevin de Bruyne scored two goals as Manchester City won Arsenal 4-1 to take the lead in the Premier League title race.
Arsenal’s lead was down by two points after the match on Wednesday evening, with Man. City having two games in hand.
Manchester City was in control of the match from the start and within the first seven minutes scored its first goal through Kevin De Bruyne.
A second goal was scored by John Stones’s header from De Bruyne’s freekick just before the end of the first half.
De Bruyne then scored City’s third goal in the second half before Rob Holding scored Arsenal’s first goal.
Erling Haaland then scored Man. City’s fourth and last goal in stoppage time. His goal was his 33rd Premier League goal of the season.
“We know what people would say whoever won this game, but I think it’s so hard and a lot of things can happen”, De Bruyne said, about their possibility of winning their third successive Premier League title.
“There are still seven games, that’s a lot of points and I know we have two games in hand but we’re still behind them. People will say that we will win the title now, but I know this team and we will not give in until it mathematically can be done,” he added.
“We are back-to-back Premier League winners so in September, October, November, when you lose a game, I said: ‘We have time, we have time,’ and Arsenal in the beginning was completely the opposite – so every game is like a final,” Manchester City’s coach Guardiola said.
Admitting defeat, Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta said; “We were beaten by the better team, that’s for sure. They were exceptional today and when that’s the case, it’s extremely difficult to reach that level.”
“We are not going to give up and it’s five games to go in this league and anything can happen,” he added.
Manchester City will face Fulham in London, while Arsenal meets London rivals Chelsea in its next Premier League outing.
