Europe’s most active volcano, Mount Etna, has again erupted, sending large amounts of ash several kilometers into the sky, which has caught the attention of the world.
Officials have informed residents that they can continue living their normal lives, as the dramatic eruption poses no threat to locals.
As reported by the INGV National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology of Italy, the partial collapse of the southeast crater triggered lava flows and the 14th eruptive phase in recent months.
While authorities raised the alert level at Catania airport, no flight was affected. The ash cloud vanishes in the afternoon of the eruption. The risk zone was played down to the volcano’s summit, which did not permit the welcoming of tourists as a measure for safety.
Sicily’s President Renato Schifani, in his message to the public, assured them that the lava did not cross boundaries as it remained within the volcano’s natural space. Dramatic videos and images of the eruption have been scattered across different social media platforms.
Reports from local media stations say that there were tremors that were felt across nearby villages and towns on the slopes of Mount Etna.
