Post Office (PO) has entered an exclusive partnership with Western Union (WU) to provide international money transfer services in its branches. This is coming following the fallout and final closure of the long-term deal between Post Office and MoneyGram in October 2024.
Previously, Western Union and Moneygram provided international money transfer services in some Post Office branches, but the failure of Post Office and Moneygram to reach an agreement and renew their contract saw the final closure of their 28-year-old partnership.
With the chapter closed on Moneygram, Western Union, which started working with Post Office in 2022, has now entered a partnership to be its sole provider of international money transfer services in its current 4,000 branches.
In a statement, Post Office said the new partnership was signed in April and will last till December 2030.
Business expansion was also included in their deal with the announcement of more branches to be set up to provide easier easy to more people in the UK to do cross-border money transfers. Currently, Western Union enables money transfer services to over 200 countries globally.
Both financial institutions will also have custom-made signage set up in branches and will embark on joint campaigns.
