PGA Tour golfer Max Homa displayed an unconventional path as he was seen carrying his bag on Monday during a 36-hole U.S. Open qualifying event in an effort to revive his season.
The PGA Tour golfer needed to qualify manually for the major tournament after a rough stretch that took him out of the top 60 in the Official World Golf Rankings.
The player, Homa, fought without a caddie at Kinsale Golf and Fitness Club in Ohio, part of the United States, saying, “It seems to be better when someone is not standing next to me.”
He was so very unlucky as he narrowly missed qualifying despite the unique strategy, losing a playoff for the final spot to Cameron Young.
Homa was ranked high enough to get automatic qualification earlier in the year, but was dropped after a lot of missed cuts and a split with longtime caddie Joe Greiner.
New caddie Bill Harke was not present at Monday’s qualifier. His final chance at a U.S. Open berth will be at this week’s RBC Canadian Open.
