Harvey Barnes and Anthony Gordon were really on the lookout in a tough game between the English side Newcastle United and Benfica in the Champions League, as the former secured three points after a 2-0 win.

Gordon got things going early on, calmly finishing Jacob Murphy’s cross from close range, making it his fourth goal in just three European matches. Barnes put Newcastle further ahead in a stunning moment after halftime.

Nick Pope did a long throw from his own box, which found Barnes down the right, and the winger did not waste time in finishing off the post after he capitalised on a major error committed by Antonio Silva.

Later, Barnes sealed up the win by sliding the ball that went through Benfica’s goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin’s legs, majoring on an assist provided by Gordon. Benfica’s pressure earned them a couple of chances to get back into it, with Dodi Lukebakio’s attempt hitting the post and being denied by Pope.

But Newcastle intensified their sharp finishing to ensure that they closed the game with victory, marking the game their first back-to-back Champions League wins since they last did it in 2003.

Newcastle, under the manager Eddie Howe, continued their impressive European run with another strong away performance.
