Derrick Groves, the last of 10 inmates who escaped from a prison in Louisiana, has been arrested after being on the run for 145 days.
He was found in Atlanta after the authorities searched a home on Honeysuckle Lane for hours. They released gas multiple times to try to draw him out. But he fought till he was extremely uncomfortable.
After a long while, the authorities were seen leading Groves to the back of the car, where he smiled and blew them a kiss. He obviously enjoyed his run.
Ten Louisiana inmates made headlines when they escaped from the Orleans Parish Justice Center on May 16, 2025.
They went ahead to rub salt on the wounds of the prison authorities when they wrote “too easy” with an arrow signifying how simple it was to escape.
They escaped through a hole behind a prison toilet, scaled the prison fence, then disappeared. Since then, there has been a nationwide manhunt for them. One by one, the authorities picked them, but they could not find Groves, who was serving a life sentence for second-degree murder.
He also had two manslaughter convictions. Given his violent history, the Police offered a huge sum of money to anyone who provided information that would lead to his arrest.
After his arrest on Wednesday, District Attorney Jason Williams was extremely relieved, acknowledging that the families of his victims can now find peace once again.
