Derrick Groves, the last of the prisoners that escaped from the New Orleans jail earlier this year, who was convicted by the court for murder, has been arrested again, nearly five months after he escaped.

Officials revealed that the convicted murderer was arrested in Atlanta, Georgia, on October 8 after a strong standoff between him and authorities at his house.

Groves was one of the 10 inmates who escaped from the New Orleans jail on May 16 after he climbed through a hole that was behind a toilet and passed through a security blind spot.

The escape remains one of the largest to have occurred recently in the United States. It also led to a lot of criticism of prison security and the multistate manhunt.

Jeff Landry, the governor of Louisiana, commended security officials for making sure that all of the 10 who escaped were taken back to the jail.

Derrick Groves and the other nine escapees, who were jailed for serious crimes, including aggravated assault and murder, will now have escape charges added to the list of their offences.

Extradition will be done next to ensure that Groves is returned to New Orleans to be kept behind bars and face the new escape charge.
