Nexstar Media Group has made it public today that it will not continue the airing of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on its ABC as it was, even as Disney has continued to air the show across the country.
This decision comes after Sinclair Broadcast Group made it known on Monday that the show will not be aired on its station. Nexstar and Sinclair accumulate nearly 70 ABC affiliates. This decision will limit the access of millions of lovers of the show to viewing it.
This new decision follows last week’s news of Disney temporarily suspending Kimmel after he went against the reaction of the Republicans to the killing of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
The decision to suspend Kimmel raised criticism from consumers and entertainers, while some promised to stay away from the station. A likely action was also threatened by Brendan Carr, the FCC Chair, against ABC and Disney.
Disney immediately rescinded it earlier, confirming the return of Kimmel on Monday, while Sinclair and Nexstar stay resolute on their decision, with the justification of their focus on programming and local news.
Sinclair is currently weighing an option to merge, while Nexstar is seeking approval from the FCC for its $6.2 billion merger with Tegna.
