Talented neo-soul singer D’Angelo, who is popular for his act of blending R&B, hip-hop, and jazz, died at the age of 51.

D’Angelo, who in his lifetime won four Grammy Awards, became global in the 1990s after he released “Brown Sugar,” which was his first album that had the hit single “Lady” in it.

He released his second album, “Voodoo,” in 1997, one that secured him two Grammys and topped US charts, solidifying his place in the American music scene. Untitled (How Does It Feel)’s video became popular and iconic for its intimate, one-shot performance.

D’Angelo was born to a Pentecostal minister. As a musical prodigy, he taught himself to play the piano at the age of three. He was born in Richmond, Virginia.

He rose back to the limelight in 2014 after releasing the powerful single “Black Messiah,” one that came after he had a near-fatal accident in 2005 and an early addiction. “Black Messiah” earned Best R&B Album at the 2016 Grammys.

The news of his death has met several tributes on social media, especially from other celebrities who had beautiful names to call him. Tyler called him the Creator, DJ Premier named him “KING,” and Flavour Flav says he is an irreplaceable legend.
