Two popular YouTube stars, Dan Howell and Phil Lester, have finally confirmed that they are in a relationship after 16 years of rumours, putting a stop to what they tagged as the “apocalyptic constant stress of the Dan and Phil dating conspiracy.”
The two British lovers earned millions of followers through comedy and gaming videos they upload on their channel, and formerly co-hosted a BBC Radio 1 show. The duo also wrote best-selling books and travelled on world tours.
While they had never addressed their relationship status publicly until now, they are remembered for coming out in 2019 as gay.
“We fell into it hard and fast in 2009, and here we are almost 16 years later,” Dan said in the new video, telling followers they “can’t live in fear anymore.”
In addressing the issue, Dan mentioned that his decision to keep the information to himself arises from his “extremely homophobic childhood,” which caused him to be lonely for years.
Dan also discussed the issue of interference from the public, saying it could have ended him, and said that while they were successful at their work, he sometimes asked if he could have been happier and with less anxiety without the fame.
