An old post Charlie Kirk made on Twitter, where he ordered Libya to give the United States their oil after the killing of its then-ruler, Muammar Gaddafi, has resurfaced online.
The late Charlie Kirk made the tweet a day after Gaddafi was shot dead by rebel forces during the country’s civil war.
“Libya, give us your oil.” Kirk wrote on his Twitter handle @charliekirk11 at 12:07 AM on October 21, 2011.
The Libyan ruler, Muammar Gaddafi, was killed during a pro-democracy uprising to liberate the country from his authoritarian rule. The uprising, which led to a civil war and the subsequent downfall of Libya, was heavily supported by the United States and NATO.
Though the US and NATO forces said they were intervening for humanitarian reasons, many quarters believe it was also due to the abundance of oil and natural gas and their quest to put in a compliant leader who would better serve their interests.
The US-backed invasion of Libya was also said to be due to Gaddafi’s quest to ditch the US dollar for an African-owned currency that would be backed by gold.
Charlie Kirk’s remarks after the West aided to successfully topple the Libyan government and eliminate Gaddafi only cemented their suspicion.
At his death at the hands of an assassin, the internet has dug out the old social media post, and is posthumously criticizing the right-wing activist in their numbers.
