Days after Mexican TikToker Valeria Marquez was shot and killed during a live stream by an assassin who came as a delivery person, a Colombian influencer named Maria Jose Estupinan, popularly known as La Mona, was shot and killed by a gunman who also came as a delivery person.
La Mona’s shooting happened outside her home in Cucuta, Norte de Santander, on May 15, 2025, and a CCTV camera captured her killer running away on foot.
According to local media, the fake deliveryman came to her residence to deliver a gift that morning, and when she came out to receive it, he shot her in the face at close range. Video below:
Just like Valeria’s case, La Mona’s is also linked to femicide and her ex-boyfriend is been investigated as the prime suspect for her murder.
A day before her death, a court had ordered him to pay 30 million pesos (about $7,000) as compensation to her for the domestic violence suit she filed in 2018. La Mona was also said to have been in a relationship with a man killed weeks ago in a vehicle in Villa Antigua.
Up till her death, 22 year 22-year-old Maria Jose Estupinan was a seventh-semester student of Social Communication at the Francisco de Paula Santander University (UFPS) and was to begin her internship at Colombia’s regional public television network – Canal TRO. She was also a model and the owner of a clothing brand.
There is no official motive for her death, and the killer, who was simply described as “a man in a black cap, jacket, and jeans, carrying a backpack”, is yet to be identified.
