Wess Roley, an Idaho man who is only 20 years old and once had a dream of becoming a firefighter, gruesomely shot two firemen and injured one in a surprising ambush at Canfield Mountain, near Coeur d’Alene.
According to a report by authorities, it was noted that Idaho purposely caused a fire to trick emergency services before he opened fire with a high-powered rifle at responding officers. Dave Tysdal is in a stable condition, but John Morrison and Frank Harwood have been reported dead.
Wess Roley lived in his vehicle and was reported to have attacked after he was asked by firefighters to move. He was found dead after authorities, including 300 officers and helicopters, conducted a manhunt for him.
The flint that he used to ignite the fire was seen beside his body.
The governor of Idaho has made the order that flags be lowered to half-staff to honour those killed by Roley. The fire was said to have covered 26 acres, and it is now under control.
There are no known ties between Wess Roley and any extremist group, while he had had little encounter with law enforcement officers before. His motive is yet to be determined. However, there was a post that his mother made about him that he was “doing great” in Idaho.
