A serious attack that involved shooting occurred at 345 Park Avenue, a midtown Manhattan building where the headquarters of the National Football League and prominent financial companies are situated, on Monday.
“One of our employees was seriously injured in this attack. He is currently in the hospital and in stable condition,” Goodell wrote in the memo, which was obtained by ESPN. “NFL staff are at the hospital, and we are supporting his family. We believe that all of our employees are otherwise safe and accounted for, and the building has nearly been cleared.”
Those who lost their lives in the shooting attack were four people, including an off-duty NYPD officer. A staff member of the NFL was badly injured, and other individuals sustained minor wounds while they fled the crime scene.
Police claim that the shooter, Shane Tamura, who resides in Las Vegas, had a documented history of mental illness. Officials went further to mention that Shane Tamura committed suicide at the scene.
Shane Tamura, before his death, wrote a three-page note, where he mentioned that he was a victim of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a disease of the brain resulting from multiple head injuries.
He also vaguely mentioned the NFL in his note, but his motive remains sketchy.
Roger Goodell, the NFL Commissioner, in his response to the attack, stated that security within the premises had been increased and advised staff living within New York to either take Tuesday off work or work from home.
Mayor Eric Adams also made it known to the public that authorities have commenced investigations to unravel the reasons behind the tragedy.
The NFL shooting, together with the Reno Casino mass shooting that has so far claimed the lives of 3 people, has once again raised concerns about the unsettling incidents of mass shootings in the United States.
