Rep. Al Green Removed From House After Protesting Against President Trump’s Address

A Texas Democrat Representative, Al Green, was taken away on Tuesday night from the House chamber after he disrupted the congressional address of President Donald Trump.

The Texas representative screamed, “Mr. President, you don’t have a mandate!” in protest of proposed Medicaid cuts. His disruption was waved off by Republicans chanting “U-S-A!” before Mike Johnson, the Speaker of the House, made an order for his removal.

Green remains one of the biggest critics of President Trump in the House, and he has consistently demanded his impeachment. He made known his disagreement with Medicaid cuts after his ejection from the House, making it known that access to medical care is a fundamental right.

Democrats remain skeptical that Republican-led spending cuts could end up weakening the program, while Trump mentioned that Medicaid is going nowhere.

Hakeem Jeffries, the Minority Leader of the House, and Chuck Schumer, the Minority Leader of the Senate, invited the beneficiaries of Medicaid to the address, highlighting its importance.

Aside from Green, other representatives from the Democrats also protested by wearing pink dresses to stand against economic policies they claim could have negative effects on women, while others wore blue ties and yellow dresses in support of Ukraine.

Tension picked up further when the newly sworn-in United States president mentioned a pause on military support for Ukraine, causing mixed feelings among lawmakers.
