José Mourinho took football lovers, especially Fenerbache fans, by surprise with his sharp post-match analysis, but that does not stop his side from losing three points after falling 3-1 at home to Rangers in their Europa League last-16 meeting.
The former Chelsea head coach was blunt in his post-game analysis, calling Fenerbahçe’s performance against the Rangers “bad everywhere” and regretting the great errors.
José Mourinho did not fail to acknowledge Rangers’ disciplined performance, mentioning their great defensive prowess and time-wasting tactics, but reiterated that it is not over as he plans to make a challenge in the second leg.
Rangers picked on the struggles of Fenerbahçe as Cyriel Dessers delivered the first goal of the match in the early minutes of the game.
Vaclav Cerny scored an additional two for the guests, Fenerbahçe, although the team scored two other goals that were ruled offside after VAR checks.
The Scottish stayed well-positioned to hit the quarter-finals despite their domestic struggles, where they could be meeting with Athletic Bilbao or Roma.
Fenerbache’s head coach also mentioned that the 3-1 loss to Rangers was a “good result,” as the margin could have been worse.
The second leg, which will be played in Glasgow, may give Mourinho’s side the opportunity to make a change.
“For me, I have to say that we deserved a punishment of this result,” he said. “But if someone wants to ask me if it’s over, no, I don’t think it’s over.
“If they celebrate after the second match I will congratulate them but now calm down because it’s not over.”
“The only thing I tell this is don’t celebrate too much, because there is a second match to play, that’s my only advice.
