A Southwest Airlines plane quickly aborted a landing and made a touch-and-go after sighting a small jet entering its runway at Midway Airport in Chicago, Illinois.
The incident happened on Tuesday morning. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the FlexJet Flight LXJ560 did not get approval before it entered the path.
A trending video showed the wheels of the Southwest Flight WN2504 briefly touching the runway before it immediately took off to avoid crashing into the small plane that was crossing runway 31C. Watch below:
“Tower, Southwest 2504, how’d that happen?” A shocked pilot was heard asking according to radio recordings.
The pilots circled and landed safely 15 minutes after their first attempt. They took off from Omaha, Nebraska.
Following the quick action of the pilots to avert another air disaster, Eric Trump called SouthWest Airlines to promote all members of the flight crew.
“@SouthwestAir immediately promote this captain and flight crew. This is the talent Americans want to see in our skies”, he wrote on X.
The FAA is investigating the incident which again worsens the fears about the safety of air travel in the United States.
Just recently, an American Airlines plane was forced to land shortly after takeoff after what seemed to be smoke or fog filled the cabin. This follows the Delta Airlines plane that flipped upside down in Toronto and the military helicopter that rammed into a passenger plane in the air.
