A Delta Airlines plane from the United States crashed at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport when it was landing. The Bombardier CRJ900 twin-jet aircraft flipped upside down and caught fire but nobody died. 18 people were injured and 3 of them, including a child, are in critical condition. Watch below:
A video of the plane Delta plane crash was captured by a passenger on another aircraft that was taxing on the runway on Monday afternoon. It showed the aircraft with its landing gears out descending on the runway and landing hard on its belly.
The aircraft quickly caught fire and as it continued moving, it turned over, ending in a plume of smoke and snow
The aircraft with flight number 4819 left St. Paul International Airport in Minneapolis with 80 people onboard, including 4 crew members but crashlanded at its destination.
Passengers in the ill-fated aircraft said it was a normal flight and landing until they suddenly saw themselves hanging upside down from their seats and had to quickly evict the plane.
A video recorded on a mobile phone by one of the passengers saw a flight attendant urging them to move out quickly as responders on the ground helped to bring them down the aircraft. Watch below:
Though the cause of the crash will be investigated by Canada’s Transportation Safety Board, reports of strong winds and snow reaching 40mph were reported, leaving experts guessing that the aircraft might have been jolted by strong crosswinds.
FAA investigators from the US are also en route to Canada to join in the investigation.
Toronto’s airport emergency response was praised for their quick action to ensure a potentially bigger fire did not erupt in the plane.
The abnormally high rate of plane crashes in Northern America is now a major source of concern. From the military helicopter that flew into a passenger plane midday in Washington DC to the plane crash in Philadelphia that left 67 and 6 people dead respectively.
