Manchester United has encountered another disappointing moment at home after losing 2-0 to Crystal Palace in their fifth Old Trafford loss in six local league matches.
Both teams endured a first-half goalless draw until Jean-Philippe Mateta helped Crystal Palace net the two goals in the second half, marking their fourth victory in Old Trafford against Manchester United in six seasons and pushing them to 12th place on the Premier League table while Manchester United dropped to 13th position.
The Red Devils have fallen from their three-game winning run, caused by manager Ruben Amorim’s decision to bench Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee. Kobbie Mainoo, who played as the top striker, created an early chance that hit the post, but their attack efforts did not last.
Palace created result-yielding efforts as Eberechi Eze shot a free kick that Mateta converted into a goal. United’s woes were further compounded by Lisandro Martínez’s injury before Mateta converted an assist from Daniel Muñoz into his second goal.
This win makes it Crystal Palace’s third straight-away win.
This season is one of the worst that Manchester United has experienced since 1993/94, with seven home losses in 13 local league games. The team will likely not qualify for the next European League.
