Catalonia giant, Barcelona, secured their first trophy since hiring Hansi Flick as head coach with a massive 5-2 win against Real Madrid in Saudi Arabia in the final of the Spanish Super Cup.
Real Madrid luckily scored the first goal through French forward Kylian Mbappe to secure an early lead, but Barcelona made a massive comeback with goals from Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha (twice), and Alejandro Balde.
17-year-old Lamine Yamal scored a much-needed equalizer, while Lewandowski converted a penalty into a goal to put Barcelona in the lead after a foul was committed against Gavi.
Raphinha and Balde added to the goals to extend the lead before the end of the first half by dismantling Real Madrid’s defense.
Real Madrid scored another goal through a brilliant free kick from Rodrygo after Wojciech Szczesny, Barcelona’s goalkeeper, was shown a red card, but Madrid was unable to major on their numerical advantage.
Mbappé almost scored a second goal, and Jude Bellingham was also close to being a goal, but Barcelona’s defense, led by Jules Koundé, resisted their attempt.
The win makes it the team’s record-tying 15th Spanish Super Cup, also proving a strong team with dominance under Flick as the head coach.
