Several news sources have reported that ex-talk show host Ellen DeGeneres has moved from the United States to England. DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have moved to the Cotswolds, a beautiful area in the south-west of England, as reported by PEOPLE.
They made this decision after Donald Trump won the election against Kamala Harris. Before election day on November 5, DeGeneres had released a statement in August on Instagram, offering her support for Vice President Kamala Harris and criticizing Vice President-elect JD Vance.
It is now reported that President-elect Trump’s victory has made DeGeneres feel disappointed and disenchanted with the political situation in the U.S.
Sources close to the couple shared that they had actually bought their new home before the election and were in the process of selling their house in Montecito, California. The two are now happily settling into their new life in the UK. They’ve been seen enjoying time with other well-known personalities in the Cotswolds, like singer James Blunt. The couple has also been visiting local pubs and attending community events, fully embracing their new environment.
For over two years, Ellen DeGeneres has been dealing with claims that she had fostered a toxic atmosphere on her talk show. Due to some allegations related to inappropriate sexual interactions and harassment among executives, Warner Bros. got involved and carried out an internal investigation of their own. When DeGeneres later issued a public apology to her team, her efforts to address the situation didn’t restore her public image, and ultimately, this contributed to the end of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” which concluded in 2022.
DeGeneres’ move to the UK is in line with other top celebrities who have said they would leave the United States if Trump returns to power. For instance, stars like Sharon Stone have also talked about relocating to Europe because of the current political climate.
