President Joe Biden has just reaffirmed his determination to seek re-election in 2024 during a press conference following the NATO summit in Washington, D.C. The event, which lasted approximately an hour, saw Biden addressing the many concerns growing within the Democratic Party about his candidacy.
Biden, speaking without a teleprompter, fielded questions from reporters on various topics, including his fitness for office and his campaign strategy. About his qualifications, he stated,
“I think I’m the most qualified person to run for president. I beat him once and I will beat him again,” referring to former President Donald Trump.
The President didn’t shy away from addressing the concerns about his age and mental acuity, revealing that he undergoes daily neurological assessments as part of his decision-making process. He expressed willingness to take additional tests if recommended by his doctors, saying,
“I’m good. I’m tested every single day on my neurological capacity in the decisions I make everyday.”
Biden also discussed adjustments to his schedule, acknowledging the need to pace himself more effectively. He clarified reports about earlier bedtimes, explaining,
“Instead of my every day starting at 7 and going to bed at midnight, it would be smarter to pace myself a little more.”
The press conference came at a crucial time for the President, as some Democratic lawmakers and supporters have occasionally voiced doubts about his ability to defeat Trump in November. Biden responded by highlighting his administration’s accomplishments and touching on the importance of completing his agenda.
“We’ve never been here before. And that’s the other reason why I didn’t, as you say, hand off to another generation. I got to finish this job. I’ve got to finish this job because there’s so much at stake,” Biden stated, referencing the challenges facing the country.
In general, Biden, as of this moment, still remains resolute in his decision to run and has called on his party to unite behind his candidacy.
