Luis Rubiales, Sentenced to €10,800 Fine For Kissing Jenni Hermoso

Estranged RFEF President Luis Rubiales has been sentenced to a fine of €10,800 (a daily fee of €20 for 18 months) for kissing Jenni Hermoso during the Women’s 2023 World Cup in Sydney.

However, he was acquitted of coercion to downplay the importance of the kiss, along with the former coach of the women’s national team, Jorge Vilda, and the former directors Albert Luque and Rubén Rivera.

The criminal judge of the National Court of Spain, José Manuel Fernández-Prieto, also ruled that Rubiales would not come within a radius of 200 meters from Hermoso for a year.

The National Court’s Prosecutor’s Office had tried to sway the court to give Rubiales a two-year sentence for the sexual harassment and coercion charges. However, the judge had a different ruling in mind.

Rubiales strangely kissed Hermoso on the mouth when Spain beat England in the 2023 women’s World Cup final.

The players were celebrating, and Rubiales joined them, hugging and kissing them weirdly. Soon enough, it became the talk of the press with everyone giving their opinions about the incident.

Some individuals felt that the kiss should not be classified as a sexual assault since it was out of excitement. However, others supported the sexual harassment claim since Hermoso was ambushed.
