Investigation On Tupac Shakur killing Ongoing As Police Serve Search Warrant

The police are still carrying on their investigation to get the killer of Tupac Shakur who was murdered 30 years ago after authorities in Nevada said they served a search warrant this week.

“LVMPD can confirm a search warrant was served in Henderson, Nevada on July 17, 2023, as part of the ongoing Tupac Shakur homicide investigation,” Las Vegas police said in a statement. “We will have no further comment at this time.”

25-year-old Tupac Shakur, one of the top figures in hip-hop and rap, was killed on the night of Sept. 7, 1996, in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department revealed that the search warrant was executed on Monday in the city of Henderson.

They did not say what they were looking for and exactly where they were looking, but the search was conducted in a home less than 20 miles from the Las Vegas Strip where Shakur was shot.

Department spokesperson Aden OcampoGomez said that he couldn’t provide further information on the news, citing the open investigation.

Tupac Shakur was shot while sitting inside a black car with Marion “Suge” Knight, the head of Death Row Records. Official reports said they were attacked when they stopped at a red light near the Las Vegas Strip, then a white Cadillac pulled up next to them and gunfire erupted.

Shakur was hit many times and rushed to the hospital where he died a week later.

No arrest has been made by the police since the shooting. The Las Vegas police cited that witnesses failed to cooperate during the investigation, leading to it hitting a dead end.

In 2019, Greg Kading, a retired Los Angeles police detective, alleged toldCBS News Los Angelesthat Tupac Shakur’s murder case had already been solved after Duane Davis — also known as Keffe D — confessed to his involvement in his killing, while he was being interrogated for his involvement in the murder of Biggie Smalls.

But at the time, Las Vegas police only said that the case was still an open investigation.

Shakurposthumously received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Famelast month, for his contributions to the arts, and activism for racial equality, and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame bySnoop Dogg in 2017.

In May the city council in Oakland, Californiaunanimously votedto rename a stretch of MacArthur Boulevard between Grand Avenue and Van Buren Avenue, where the rapper once lived, as “Tupac Shakur Way.”

With six Grammy Award nominations and 5 albums, Tupac Shakur is considered one of the most influential rappers of all time.

His professional music career lasted only five years, but Shakur secured 21 Billboard Hot 100s, including top 10 hits “Dear Mama” and “Old School” in 1995, and his best-known track, 1996’s “How Do U Want It/California Love” featuring K-Ci and JoJo. The latter spent two weeks at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 from his final studio album and Death Row Records debut, “All Eyez on Me.”

According to Luminate, an entertainment data company, Shakur has sold 33 million albums, 41 million when including track sales and streaming equivalents, with video and audio streams of 10.1 billion.
