Jimmy Kimmel Live show returned on air days after Kimmel was suspended for making seemingly insensitive comments following popular right-winged activist, Charlie Kirk’s death.
Kimmel’s suspension was the most notable among a series of suspensions, firings, and expulsions that rocked the United States.
“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country,” ABC said in a statement.
“We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return to the show on Tuesday.”
After Jimmy’s suspension was announced, many fans and other celebrities spoke out against it, calling the suspensions, expulsions, and lay-offs an infringement on free speech.
The United States has continued to be on a divisive downtrend, and the tragic demise of Kirk made it worse. It quickly became a battle of the left-wing vs. the right-wing rather than the general condemnation of explosive speeches and violence.
When Kirk’s assassination first made the news, a lot of people wanted it to be someone with ‘a leftist ideology’ or even one of the minorities. However, it was a little bit nerve-wracking when the shooter, who was later identified as Tyler Robinson, was from a right-winged family.
Charlie’s assassination, taking place in Utah, was also another surprise. It was one of the least expected places for that to happen.
Emotions are still running high as the United States struggles with spikes in violence and deeper pits of division.
