A suspect has confessed to the gruesome killing of William “Bill” Schonemann, an Arizona pastor, for preaching that Jesus Christ is one with God.
The 76-year-old elderly pastor was found dead on his bed with his arms spread out and pinned to the wall, in a crucifixion manner, inside his home in New River on April 28, 2025.
Since then, the police have been working to unravel his killers. Adam Christopher Sheafe, one of the suspects, confessed to committing the crime.
The 52-year-old suspect made the revelation in a jail interview with Fox 10 News at the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office. He also revealed that he had a list of locations across the United States where he planned to kill 14 more pastors in 10 cities across 10 states, and that he was, in fact, on his way to kill two priests in Sedona when he was arrested by the police.
He said he decided to embark on the killing spree because the pastors/priests were misleading Christians by preaching the Trinity and proclaiming that Jesus Christ is God. According to Adam, God the Father alone is God.
He added that he doesn’t hate Christians in any way and was himself born in a Christian family, but his anger was towards the false preaching by those pastors, who he claimed were leading the faithful astray.
During the interview, Adams said he was not intoxicated and that his mental health was perfect. He said he was not sorry for the gruesome murder because he was defending his father, but he could apologize to the victim’s family because they were in the crossfire, and that he had no problem being executed for his actions.
Authorities revealed that Adams has been charged with murder but will be extradited to Maricopa County.
The family of the late Schonemann, in a statement, said the killer wanted some attention, and they were not happy with the media coverage that was granting him that, and also warned against his increasing popularity and risk of gaining followership.
