Tragedy struck South Lake Tahoe on Saturday after multiple boats capsized due to large troughs that plagued the lake. Six members who were on board died and a few were taken to the hospital.
The winds came from the North, which was very unusual because winds from the north don’t normally come in the summer. But the winds created 8-10 gales on Saturday, sending passengers off their boats and deep into the lake.
At least 10 people were in the water when the waves came, and the people around at that time called the Coast Guard for help.
A few minutes after they were called, the local authorities, along with local first responders, arrived and got to work. They got into the water to rescue as many as they could.
By nightfall, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office confirmed six of the ten dead.
Two of them were injured and rushed to the hospital. However, two people are still missing.
By Sunday, the last two were still missing with the search and rescue team still looking for them. K9S, responders from the fire department, and divers searched through the lake and its surroundings to find any hint of where they are.
The authorities are still searching and will not rest till they find them.
