An influencer by the name Amine Mojito or Ilan M., who went viral online by “injecting” unsuspecting people with syringe needles as his line of content creation, was sentenced after his arrest and first court appearance on September 5.
The content creator took the opportunity of the news of needle attacks at events from late last year, up to the festivals that were held during France’s Fête de la Musique (World Music Day) in June, to gain popularity as the probable needle attacker.
However, this was a prank where he would have someone record him as he approached Parisians and pricked them with the needle from an empty syringe. The pranked would be left in a wild state of panic, with some resorting to getting hold of him, of which he would flee.
Amine Mojito’s video got the media attention he craved for, but just like the insecticide TikToker Wolfie Kahletti, he too got a wild share of public outrage, which ultimately resulted in his arrest and prosecution.
The Paris Criminal Court on October 3 sentenced him to 12 months in prison. However, he will only serve 6 months behind bars. He was also fined €1,500 and banned from carrying or owning a weapon for the next three years.
Though the prosecution and the general public wanted a harsher sentence, the defense of the 27-year-old TikToker felt better with the judgment and said it brought a balance between the ” media frenzy” on public order and the fundamental rights of her client.
French local media, Libération, said Amine Mojito was very sorry for his actions and said he saw it on social media from pranksters in Spain and Portugal.
