Jamie Vardy positioned himself as the player to watch in Leicester City’s 2-0 victory on Saturday against Southampton. Aside from that, he needed a goal; he was also dramatic in the game.
Jamie Vardy took charge when David Webb, the referee who officiated the match, was mistakenly floored by a shoulder barge from Jordan Ayew. The player took the referee’s whistle away from the floor and blew it to disrupt the game as Southampton players were seen on the attack while the referee was still on the ground clutching his face.
“I saw Southampton breaking down on the left, and with the ref down, I thought I’d blow his whistle to stop the game,” Vardy told BBC Match of the Day with a grin.
As the referee stood up from the ground, he was unable to continue officiating and was immediately replaced with fourth official Sam Barrott. Webb left the pitch without any support.
The dramatic display by Jamie Vardy added to his lively day as the incident came after he scored the match’s first goal in the 17th minute after the commencement of the game with a sharp finish, which makes it his 199th goal for Leicester City.
Vardy, who is already 38 years old, is hoping to record his 200th goal for the club before the end of the season and feature in 500 appearances before going to another club this summer after 13 years in Leicester.
