U.S. President Donald Trump posted a video on X that showed the moment a group of people that gathered in a circle were obliterated by a guided missile.
Trump claimed the people were Houthi fighters who had gathered to get instructions for a new attack they were planning to execute.
The footage of the bombing was captured by a drone and showed the moment a missile struck the group, leaving behind a large crater amid a cloud of dust and destruction. Watch the video below:
The recent attack from the United States on Iranian-backed Houthis was a response from Trump following Houtis’ threats to start attacking Israeli ships after Israel said they would block aid from entering the Gaza Strip. The US has also been conducting airstrikes on the rebels for 20 days now.
“They will never sink our ships again!” Trump also wrote in the post. He chose not to allow the Islamic military organization to act first. Houthis have attacked over 100 container ships from November 2023 to January 2025, killing 4 sailors and sinking two vessels.
However, a section of the media is claiming that the group of people killed by the latest US airstrikes were not Houthis militants, but Muslim civilians. The reports claim that the villagers are known to gather in large circular groups, just like the one seen in the video, for meetings. In this case, the villagers had gathered to celebrate Eid ul-Fitr.
Even the comment section where Trump shared the video was not spared from people berating him for the attacks and saying his actions were a far cry from his manifesto where he said he would seek to end wars, pursue peace, and not drag Americans to unconcerned wars.
“It was a tribal gathering. They were just villagers celebrating Eid ul-Fitr, and you bombed them. This is a war crime, and you are a criminal. You promised to end the war, but instead, you fueled it. You are a liar and a hypocrite.” Huma wrote.
Others also noted that there were no military vehicles or weapons nearby and claimed the attack on the group of civilians was only based on satellite imagery.
However, Houtis have not said that the US airstrike was on civilians.
