San Francisco erected a giant statue of a naked woman in front of the SF Ferry Building. The female structure called “R-Evolution” was unveiled on Thursday evening. It weighs 29,000 pounds, stands 45 feet tall, and will be the welcome and main sight for visitors.
Marco Cochrane, the artist who created the naked sculpture said the intent was to make women seen. According to him, it is difficult to find women depicted in art and even when they do appear, they are mostly depicted in less useful narratives.
He argued that the massive nude woman’s statue was a calling for women all over the world to be strong and free.
However, a video of the workers working inside the butthole of the naked statue made the unveiling otherwise.
The statue was originally meant to be placed in Union Square, but because of its massive weight that could break the plaza’s ground, it now stands at San Francisco Embarcadero. It is made with fabricated steel rods and tubing and covered by stainless steel mesh which gave it a glittering look.
The launching of E-Evolution happened from 5.pm to 8.pm and was organized by the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, and attendees were treated with live music, food, and lighting from “Illuminate”.
