Napoli continues to strengthen their chances in Serie A as they beat Inter Milan after beating Empoli 3-0 on Monday at home, when Scott McTominay scored two goals and Romelu Lukaku scored one.
The win pushes Napoli to three points behind League leaders Inter Milan, who recently won their game on Saturday against Cagliari 3-1, with only six games before the season ends.
Antonio Conte’s men scored the first goal in the 18th minute after the commencement of the match when Lukaku passed through the midfield and created an assist to McTominay, who fired a low long-range shot that went past goalkeeper Devis Vásquez into the bottom corner.
Lukaku increased the team’s lead in the 56th minute, when he ran to catch a through ball that he fired into the opponent’s net.
After five minutes of Lukaku scoring, he created another assist through a fine cross that located McTominay to head in off the underside of the bar.
Lukaku and McTominay did a joint work when the Belgian released McTominay on the break, but McTominay’s effort to hit a hat-trick was denied by woodwork.
The win puts Napoli seven points over Atalanta, which currently stands in third place, as the battle for the title appears to be between Inter and Napoli.
“Romelu is a great teammate’, McTominay told DAZN. “He demands a lot from all the team and me to score more goals and create more opportunities for him to score as well. He’s a great player. He’s had a great career, and we’re so happy to have him.
“We must have fun and think about ourselves. We’re a strong team and must continue with this playing style and attitude.”
