Borussia Dortmund outdid themselves on Tuesday night against Barcelona with a 4-1 record, but the win could not match their first-leg 4-0 defeat as Barcelona proceeded to the UEFA Champions League Semi-Finals.
Serhou Guirassy performed brilliantly for Dortmund, scoring three goals that included a cheeky ‘Panenka’ penalty in the 11th minute after Pascal Gross was roughly attacked by Wojciech Szczesny.
Serhou Guirassy scored his second goal of the night early in the second half by having an aggregate shortage, but an own goal committed by Ramy Bensebaini saved the night for Barcelona, pushing the Catalona giants to their semifinals.
The own goal did not deter Dortmund from making more efforts as they created more opportunities, one of which found the new but was canceled for offside.
Guirassy went further by scoring another goal in the 76th minute, boosting Dortmund’s hopes of featuring in the semifinals after he fired a shot into the roof of the net through a conversion of a poor clearance from Barcelona.
Julian Brandt scored a goal on the night, securing Dortmund their slot, but the goal was removed from the scoreline for offside. Dortmund could not secure a chance of playing in the semifinals despite their effort as they could not score another goal before the final whistle.
This aggregate win for Barcelona secures the team their first semifinals since they last played in 2019 with the hope that the team will play against Inter Milan or Bayern Munich in the next match.
