Oklahoma State’s Wyatt Hendrickson has clocked the NCAA Wrestling heavyweight championship after beating Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson in the final on Saturday night.
Hendrickson scored a takedown in the final minute and could not believe his eyes when he won, since he was the major underdog in the match.
The United States President, who is a huge wrestling fan, was in attendance, and Hendrickson was excited to see him.
He jumped around and ran to Trump before saluting him, shooting his hands and hugging him in excitement.
“It’s bigger than worlds, Olympics, anything,” Hendrickson said after the big win.
Winning was routine for Olympic gold medalist Steveson. He came into the match as the heavy favorite with a 70-march streak.
Steveson has won the NCAA title twice before. He had even tried TV wrestling with WWE and NXT before returning to Minnesota for the new wrestling season.
Hendrickson is now the first Oklahoma State wrestler to win an NCAA championship title since Steve Mocco in 2005.
Penn State won the Division I men’s wrestling national title again, under coach Cael Sanderson. It is their 12th title since they started competing.
