Inter Milan secured a well-earned three points against Feyenoord in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash. Marcus Thuram netted the opening goal in the 38th minute, converting a fine pass from Nicolo Barella.
Kristjan Asllani’s powerful free kick was tipped over the bar by goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther just before the end of the first half.
Inter Milan netted their second goal just five minutes after the second half commenced through a fire layoff into the top side of the net of Piotr Zielinski by the team’s captain.
The goal was added to Inter Milan’s record as the most goals that have been scored by the team in the European Cup/Champions League.
Inter Milan could have tripled their lead when Thuram was awarded a penalty kick, but Zielinski could not find the net courtesy of the save by the Feyenoord goalkeeper. Feyenoord did not give up on trying to recover, but their attempt through Jakub Moder, who joined the club as a loanee from Brighton, rattled the bar.
They also suffered another blow as a yellow card was shown to Ibrahim Osman, which will deny him of playing in the second leg on March 11 at San Siro. Inter Milan is now expected to perform better in their next match to qualify.
